Counselling: What to expect
After the initial consultation, should you decided that you would like to go ahead, we would then set a time and date for our next appointment. Where possible it would be the same time and day for subsequent appointments. In my experience, I have found it to be more beneficial for at least the first few sessions to be on consecutive weeks. However, if this is not possible we can discuss a schedule that would work better for you. Each session lasts for 50 minutes.
My Approach to Counselling
Counselling is a talking therapy. It is not about me telling you what to do or offering advise. It is a collaboration between us, client and counsellor, working together, supporting you on your journey of self-exploration. I provide a safe and confidential environment where you will be able to explore any issues that are causing you concern, in the knowledge that you will not be judged or rejected.
My approach to counselling is to raise awareness of any negative thought processes, self-destructive behaviours and fixed / rigid patterns of meeting and engaging with the world. Whether you feel your issues are deep rooted in your past or are more recent, I believe that it is how they affect you in the here and now that is most important. Raised self-awareness promotes autonomy and supports your ability and choice to change, which in turn can promote a happier, more balanced mental health and life.
